Centre for Gifted & Talented Education 'One-Day School'

Research informs us that gifted minds are engaged when deeper understandings can be explored, analysed, invented, reinvented, challenged, questioned and shared with other like minds. To excite our most able thinkers, to stretch their capabilities, to seek their potential, to capture their imaginations, to fuel their love of learning, to nurture relationships with other gifted minds is quintessential to our existence. As such Born to Soar has established an educational community for gifted children through our Centres for Gifted and Talented Education.

The Born to Soar Gifted Approach is epitomised in our term ‘enteration’ – born from the word ‘entreprendre’ the French root for our English word enterprise and entrepreneur. Our community members are our ‘Entersoars’, 'Entercelers' and ‘Enterites’ - they ‘enter’ into a community where it is safe to explore; solve problems in new ways; undertake challenges; use initiative and to think differently; a place for minds to be unfettered and given permission to soar and discover original thought.

"Enterites" – Exploring and thinking in a new way!

Our Enterite educational community provides a space for gifted students to learn, where a gifted student’s need to be taught at their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD – the difference between what they can learn with no help and what they need to learn with support) is paramount to our learning paradigm. Enterites will have the opportunity to extend reading, writing and maths as formal skills aligned to the Australian Curriculum when readiness is evident. Learning will be scaffolded depending on each individual student’s needs.

Points to consider as you join our learning community

    • Attendance is a half school day a week during a school term for eight weeks.

    • Pre-school children aged 3 year old and 4 year old

    • A maximum of 8 students will attend the course at one time.

    • Instructional learning is from 9.30am till 12 noon.

Professional Development for Teachers & Schools

Born to Soar offers professional development to support teachers in identifying, planning for and teaching gifted students.

We are available to act as mentors to individual teachers or small teams; or to deliver a sequential program to whole staff groups.

Important Upcoming Event:

The VIT has recently determined that as a pre-requisite for registration that all Victorian teachers will be required to declare any professional development (PD) activities undertaken in the previous 2 years that develop their capability to teach learners with a disability (special needs).

The definition of disability includes those learners with disability who are supported by general resources available within the school or service as well as learners who are receiving targeted specialist education and supports. Gifted students can and do achieve exemplary academic outcomes but require the support of teachers who understand that their gifts may also be coupled with a disability.

  • Catering for the ‘Twice Exceptional’ student ( gifted with a learning difficulty)

Born to Soar’s specialist gifted teachers also offer PD on a range of gifted topics including:

For Teachers

Please email info@borntosoar.com.au if you would like us to contact you to discuss how we can complement the work you are doing with your gifted and talented students.

We offer you support with your gifted and talented students by writing the courses and also running the sessions.

Your students do not need to leave the classroom they remain at school if you choose to enrol in virtual classes. Sessions can run during class time, in the lunch hour or after school. Teachers can nominate students from their school to attend a one day school course where students meet for one day each week for face to face learning for 8 weeks.

Your school maybe interested in hosting one day school courses for their own local community. This enables your students and students from neighbouring schools to come together one day a week with an experienced gifted educator to learn with other gifted and talented students. If this idea holds your interest please contact us.

There are more courses available that are not currently on the website. Born to Soar can also design a course especially for your school. Please ask us so that we can support you in best meeting the needs of your individual students.

For virtial classes a school course enrolment fee allows up to four students to participate in the course.
